Gaming has become so popular over the last few years that it has literally overtaken the two most popular entertainment industries in the world, music, and films. A lot of new players are entering the market and the recent boom in Battle Royale games just diverted all the attention from every other gaming genre to itself.
And while it was kind of the start of the new gaming era with endless possibilities, it also made a lot of other gaming genres just dry up of players and one of those genres is the browser games. But is it the only reason why browser games are not popular anymore? Let’s find out:
The rise and fall of browser games
Browser games used to be one of the most popular gaming genres and a platform that was used by millions of gamers around the world. I remember spending countless hours playing all sorts of games online, be it the then-popular magic 8 ball or the physics-based games that were so challenging that I just had to make sure that I beat them, just for the sake of getting that kick!
And while there are still a lot of players that are loyal to the genre and spend hours of their day playing a variety of games online, it’s not the same as it used to be back in the days. I think one of the reasons for it to just kind of slowly fade away in popularity is due to all the new games that are available to play for free online. These games are so addictive that when a new player gets into the market he has just flooded away and he never even gets to explore the games on the internet.
A number of old players still prefer to play puzzle games like Word Wipe when they wake up and they need to sharpen their brains. Kinda like an exercise for the brain. But mostly the new players don’t really get into the whole browser games and I think that is one of the reasons why the browser games have kind of shrunk in popularity. The developers need to come up with new and innovative ways to make the players really want to play the games, perhaps a new idea like the infamous geometry dash.
